Artist's StatementI mainly paint landscapes, and overwhelmingly the
beautiful landscapes of England which I love. I am particularly
interested in the changing relationship between mankind and the landscape
over time, which is why so many of my paintings focus on ruins, castles and
churches.
Others have described my style as ‘photorealism’ – a label which I have never knowingly used myself – but in reality by using bright colours, exaggerating tonal contrasts, and careful omission of cars, powerlines and even people from the landscape, I seek to portray an almost mythical version of the world which is more perfect than reality. The level of detail and realistic quality of my paintings are, nonetheless, trademarks of my work, and, as others seem to aspire to this in their own work, I hope to do more teaching in the future. An increasing proportion of my work comes from commissions in various media, ranging from landscapes to portraits and from sketches to bespoke wedding invitations and even signwriting. | Contact Details.Simon's Blog feed |
