The main focus of my art is COLOUR, which I use in an expressive way. I don’t just want to paint what I see I want to paint what I feel and perhaps inject a little fun and humour into things along the way. I paint in oils, acrylics and mixed media and find that different media have their strengths according to what effects I want to achieve and how I want to work. Whichever media I am using though, I tend to build up many layers of colour, pattern and texture before the final result is achieved. Although some of those layers may get covered over and never be seen, I believe that they subtly contribute to the final effect.
The subject matter from which I gain inspiration can vary from landscapes to portraits and more recently abstracts and, following a safari holiday in Tanzania, I have been working on a series of animal paintings based on photos I took whilst there.
