Catherine Higham, Jane Lazenby and Sabine Little are all taking part in the Sheffield Open Studios event.

That runs  over the weekends of 5th-7th and 12th-13th May.

Alison Carthy will be exhibiting at the Platform Gallery in Clithero, starting on the 5th May and running until the middle of July.

Sue Evans has work on display at The Box Gallery, The Ropewalk, Barton upon Humber.

Sunday 20th May will herald Sabine Little's "Rapunzel" installation on
one of the towers of that most extravagant of follies, Stainborough Castle, located in the grounds of Wentworth Castle Cardens.

Our second new member this year is Amy Jones.  We were hugely impressed by Amy's work, especially the way that she brings such vitality to her drawings of local livestock.

We are delighted to welcome Catherine as one of 2 new artists who joined us this year.  Catherine brings us atmospheric drawings and abstract rural and urban landscapes (like this study of Kelham Island in Sheffield).  There is an inspiring selection of photographs of her work on her personal page on our web site, or you can browse more of her work and purchase at her own web site. 

We'll be open from 10am-4pm on both days. 

Entry is free, and refreshments will be available for purchase.

We are picking up news that the Orangery will also be organising an Easter-egg hunt to entertain your little munchkins, too.   More to come on that when we've confirmed it.

They are taking part in the ONE exhibition, hosted by Rotherham Open Arts. 

It runs from Thursday 1st March to Thursday 8th April (closed Sat and Sun) and will be located in the unusual setting of the square in the Imperial Buildings, Market Place,  Rotherham. 

The Imperial Buildings also house some interesting retail outlets.

Sue was exhibiting as part of the annual Christmas Crackers exhibition at the Millenium Galleries.  The newspaper must have been quite taken with her work because they gave her almost a full-page spread, under the headline "Wood works for Sue".

You will be able to see more of Sue's work at our upcoming "Currently Crafted" exhibition at the Orangery in Wakefield at the end of March.

The bar was set by the 2010 event, when we raised almost £2000.  Could we do better amid the pervading atmosphere doom and gloom that had beset the country as a whole? 

Yes.

The cakes sold like (er) hot cakes and tea never tasted better (thank you ladies);  the raffle tantalised us and the bands transported us; and, most importantly, the sales tills were in meltdown.

All in all, this year saw us donating £2,725 to the church. 

A wonderful effort, wonderfully made, and our thanks go out to all.

We might just do it again next year.  And it might just be running from Thu 7th Nov - Sat 9th.  You might like to make a note in your diary.

All abilities are welcome.  It's not just for pen/pencil artists either.  Indeed, life drawing is one of the best ways of improving the way that you represent the human form in whatever medium you usually work.
